Argentina fail to win this and it’s hasta luego amigos. Pity, would have been good to see Messi go a long way in his last World Cup.
Personally I think old father time's finally caught up with him. Either that or he's carrying an injury.
Hasn't been at his best for quite a while now.
He scored a great goal and is still such a great player. At his best his skill is sublime with almost magnetic control

But

When Maradona touched a football.. it's just different.. it was a friendship.. looked more like they were dancing together

Fair comment. Time catches up with all of us in the end. That said imo a Messi at 75% of his peak form is still a class act. Quite a few of the game’s greats making their final WC appearances this time. As well as Messi and the Portuguese bloke there’s Modric, Neuer, Busquets and that’ll not mentioning Benzema who’s missing out because of injury.

It's a bone of contention I know when you say the greatest of all time.

Maradona, Pele, Ronaldo, Messi. All up there. George Best as well but my own pick would be Gary Breen.

I think Mr Breen is probably in many Greatest XI's.

Very similar to Portugal's Ronaldo whose being called 'phenomenon' and 'legend' after scoring a penalty against Ghana.
I think you will find that it is because he is the only player ever to score in 5 World cups and is Portugal's youngest ever and oldest ever scorer.
Cristiano Ronaldo a 'total genius' for winning Portugal penalty

They are welcome to each other, cheating FIFA and Ronaldo.

A lot of people do indeed forget the kaiser from Eire.
Up there with the greats in my book, alongside another great imho, a certain Tommy McQueen.
They talk about the Sansom's and the Ashley Cole's as being greats, but the Maldini of the north was special.
Love a cup of Rosey I do.

I can’t believe that in these conversations about who is the GOAT the name of Alex Banbury never surfaces. Quite extraordinary.

Like as been mentioned, people see the game differently I suppose.
