My late father , blessim , a native of East Ham when it was considered a respectable place to live , worked , as a Sparks , at Beckton gasworks for years and before that , as a kid used to make a few shillings running errands (tobacco runs etc) for the Wops in the POW camp that was on the same site during the war .
But let’s all be clear about this in the Mark Noble context .
Beckton ain’t and never has been Canning Town .

And if London Colney hadn’t been too far to travel , he’d have still been a local lad . But also a life long Arsenal fan.

Still there although it’s in Silvertown.
The mega mosque got a Knock back fortunately a few year ago that was proposed on the waste ground opposite West Ham station ,now a massive housing project.
