FROM SKY

West Ham sign Burnley winger Cornet for £17.5m
West Ham have completed the signing of Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet for £17.5m on a five-year contract.

The 25-year-old completed his medical on Friday before finalising personal terms to become David Moyes' fifth major summer signing following Gianluca Scamacca (£35.5m), Nayef Aguerd (£30m), Alphonse Areola (£10.5m) and Flynn Downes (£12m).

Initially, it was thought West Ham's preference was a loan, but the club were prepared to meet Cornet's release clause.

“It's a new step for me to join this big club and I'm really happy to be here, to be part of the project for the club. I'm just excited to start," he said.

"Everyone knows the level here in the Premier League is very high and I want to play here for that, so I'm really happy to be here for the next stage in my career.

"It will be amazing to play in front of 62,500 fans at London Stadium. I played here for Burnley last season and I can't wait to experience it as a West Ham player."

So long as he doesn’t take the penalties, aka the one he missed against us. He will be a good squad addition.

OZHAMMER wrote: Fri Aug 05, 2022 4:27 pm So what’s the net spend so far? ~£120 mil?
So far:

Areola - £11M
Aguerd - £30M
Downes - £12M
Scamacca - £35M
Cornet (if he signed) - £17.5Mhopefully

That a total of £105M so far with £45M left to fill in the left back and central midfielder plus hopefully 1 or 2 players on loan if required.
I think you will find Cornet will be back up LB.

Find it a bit underwhelming tbh but squad wise he does give us a few options and I hope he does as well as he did on occasions at Lyon .
I just hope he’s not THE left back .
Roll on September so we can see a few of these signings in action .
Bring back Jonathon !

In the big scheme of things he was "cheap as chips" at £17.5M, lets hope he plays better than that? ;)

That what I thought so Cresswell/Cornet on LB if Moyes put 4-2-3-1, then Cresswell on LB and Cornet on AML but if Moyes put 5-4-1, then Cornet will be slot in at LWB.

Squad now 23/24 so need another 2 players at least in DM and AMR (competition to Bowen) a player who can do AMr and AML in both flank. May need another defender (central defender on left side and can play as LB as well) so we need at least 3 versatile players

As per Gonzo video today, Moyes want another 4 players, maybe 1 or 2 from loan with a view permanent move.

What area does Moyes want to get?

Maybe a central defender on left side and who can play as Left Back
Defensive Midfielder
Attacking Winger who can play both flanks
Central attacking midfielder that can play up front if required.

Squad now 22/23 if Ashby and Coventry not included so need at least no less than 2 more players to 4 the max which maybe 1 of them on loan.
