Should have kept Conor Coventry to play DM with Noble rather than loan him out. Big mistake. Hope Chester can start and Rice or Soucek to come in 2nd half.
I was impressed with Coventry in the PSFs but he's out on loan at Peterborough, who appear to be pretty crap, and he can't get a starting place in their team it seems. Maybe the club thought Chesters was the most likely option which is why they sent Coventry out on loan. The experience will do him good.
Hope Chester will learn from Declan Rice to be a better player so to give him a game will do in good stead.

Can we rest our players from today match against Totspuds? We know that Coufal is still not quite ready yet but could return against Villa and Kral is recovering from Covid-19 so he won't feature and we need Rice and Soucek to rest so likely Soucek to be replace by Noble. Cressie and Bowen need a rest as well so the line-up is quite confusing and all depend on players match fitness. Can we give Masuaku a run of games?

Areola

Fredericks
Dawson
Diop
Johnson

Rice
Noble

Benrahma
Lanzini
Masuaku

Vlasic

The line-up won't be clear who playing as Moyes will decide in last minutes depending which players are still not tired-out. Man City may also put lesser players I do hope West Ham cruise but Man City are way ahead of us but cup game is a different matter.

makes sense to rest the majority of 1st teamers, basically its a free hit against what will no doubt be a very strong 2nd eleven for city. Cant see anything out of this game and whilst a tilt at any cup should be aimed for, i would prefer a win sunday and continued success in europe. We still dont have the strenght in depth to compete in all cups and prem.

would agree with above ibby but would prefer rice not to play, but not sure moyes trusts the youth enough even in this cup.

With Kral out until next week, either Soucek or Rice have to play more games unless 45 mins 1st half Soucek, then 45 minutes 2nd half with Rice alongside Noble whom are able to play full 90 minutes. West Ham strength in depth is slowing improving but in order to get a very strong strength in depth is by regularly playing in Champions League as Chelsea, Liverpool and the 2 Mancs been doing which is why they are miles above us cos of Champions League. Europa Cup is just a small fractions unless all the way to the Final to get a better fraction of money to get strength in depth.

Not sure if Kral will be available, but if he isn't why not throw the kid, Chesters, in ? Give him a full 90 against City Reserves, which will still be a bloody good line up, and see how he copes.

There is no evidence he is going to make it. if we ship them out then they are probably not good enough and it is a shop window.

Coventry was a very good player in our pre-season and since he went on loan, went downhill but it is not his fault as players around him are not helping him to built as our players here helping other to build up.

I'd go pretty strong, if we can knock City out of their cup, their is a damn good chance we can win it. If we're 4-0 down at HT, then mass subs.

The shop window is only half of the equation imo. There is benefit in sending a young player out to gain experience playing in "proper" football so that he can be assessed playing against a better, and more experienced, quality of player than he would face in the Under 23 league.

I thought Coventry showed genuine potential in the PSFs I watched him in and I was hopeful a loan spell in the Championship would help his development. But if he is struggling to hold down a place in a poor side it's not an encouraging sign. Similarly with Odubeko who recently has not even been on the bench at Huddersfield.

That was true and that used to work a lot when there was less of a chasm between our division and the rest but in recent years the players that have come through at West Ham have been kept behind to train with the first team.
I noticed that Guardiola would not let Foden go on loan as he said he wanted him training with decent players and not picking up bad habits lower down the pyramid.

This is one of those games that I hope we win, but really do not if we do not. Ideally, I would like to see some of the reserves get a run out so that the starting 11 get a rest. Tbh, that is what I assume will happen. No doubt Citeh will rest a few.
