Tbh the thought of Maguire and Aguerd in the middle of a back 4 fills me with dread. I’m not a fan of Aguerd the defender. I like his ability on the ball and his passing range but to me his game awareness radar is sadly lacking. And whilst I agree Maguire was excellent when at Leicester he seems to have totally lost the plot at Man U. Not a good signing in my book.
Honestly I was trying to be positive and taking the pee at the same time , fed up with all the negativity and lack of progress that we should have built on , the club should have at least tried to build a team around Rice , Scamacca and Paqueta rather then go backwards with Maquire and JWP and whoever else we may or may not bring in this window .
I think I learned at a very early age that [positivity and West Ham just don't go together. Long before the 60,000 crowds at the LS we were usually amongst the top 12 or so attendances in the country. And back then attendances were what drove a club's finances and ability to compete.
Even before my time we had 3 world cup winners in the team. But did we build a decent team around them. Of course not. We were happy to muddle along being "little old West Ham" supposedly, if the legend is to be believed, playing wonderful football which was the envy of many of the more succesful clubs. The question I've a;lways asked myself is if the football was so fucking wonderful why were our league placings so abysmal, and why, if newspaper reports of the day are to be believed were there, just like now, calls for the manager to be binned ?
So please excuse what you would probably describe as negativity. I prefer calling it being realistic and facing up to the inevitable. And remember, as I've said before, life tends to kick optimists in the nuts on a regular basis, but we pessimists expect the worst and, very occasionally, get pleasant surprises.
Have a nice day.
