Has anyone told you that you look a lot like Steve Lomas mate? :P

United paid £33.5 million for him and would probably want to recoup a fair percentage of that. Add to that his wages of over £160k a week and all of a sudden he becomes prohibitively expensive for a position that isn't really a priority at the moment. Do we need another creative midfielder? Probably yes, as cover. Can we afford a player like Mata as 'cover'? Not a chance.

I would love him at our club but he is out of our league on so many levels.

We can't afford him with our current budget and priorities list. He will probably cost us 20m transfer fee + 3m+ sign on fee and his agent would want another 2,5m on top of that and then he would want 160k per week.

Would he really want to come to us? I would think most of the Spanish teams would want him, PSG might be tempted and the Italian teams like to buy a player on past reputation.

It's nice to be linked to a player of his caliber, definitely a step up from Bakary Sako of last season.

It's all about cost at the end of the day. Not just the initial outlay, but the wages too, as they will affect the FFP, so a lot of it will come down to that.

Money aside, he would be a welcome addition to the squad, in my opinion.

Surplus to requirements imo. Payzini aside we have a wealth of midfielders & Samuelson looking to break in. If we're looking for cover, we must be able to save the money, which would be much better spent on depth at striker & fullbacks and still get some quality?

Samuelson may be looking for a while yet

Even so, spending that kind of money on a no. 10 type would detract from the areas we really need to stretch the budget.

A good question to consider, is could Lanzini be developed into a more well rounded version of Mata in years to come?
