It looks like stoke are willing to cash in on Butland as they haven't been able to get back to the Premier League. Butland seems keen on a move away. Given that Fabianskis contract runs out next year at the tender age of 36 should West Ham consider this?
I know there are more troubling areas in the squad, but surely this season should be used to spend money smarter. We should look to consolidate our position and get rid of some dead wood. Yes, there is little money to spend and the wing back positions are a pressing matter, but are Cresswell and Fredericks not good enough to keep us in the league for one more season? With the emergence of Ben Johnson and a smart loan move like with previous seasons would that not be enough? Let's face it, unless Haller discovers some sort of form to warrant his price tag West Ham are not finishing in the top ten. What exactly are we playing for next season? Mid table mediocrity at best.
Butland was touted as a future England number one or in some cases a number one for right now not so long ago. In 2018/19 he was voted as player of the season for stoke. He had the third best clean sheet record in the league that year with a struggling stoke side. He has played 81 games in the last two years with the other goalkeeper playing in the cups in case anyone was concerned for his fitness. Plus, he gets to challenge and work with Fabianski for a year who has bags of Premier league and international experience. 8m is a bargain in my eyes and his wages would be less than that of Fabianski, with a higher ceiling. COYI!
If anyone believes that the 5 million is going to fund new players can think again. With the way that Sullivan likes to do business we probably owe 7million left on Ajeti.
