Tate Modern: Teenager jailed for throwing boy from Balcony

Post by BlackDiamond »

A teenager who threw a six-year-old child off a viewing platform at the Tate Modern gallery in London will serve at least 15 years in prison, the Old Bailey was told on Friday.

By way of explanation after his arrest,he told Police that he wanted to be notorious and that it was fun. He admitted that he planned to kill a small child that day and had debated drowning as the method but decided on using a tall building.

On the day in question he tried to enter the Shard but couldn't afford the entrance fee. After getting directions he found the Tate Modern and after reaching the viewing platform, distracted a parent and then threw a six year old child head first, onto concrete, 4 storeys below.

The child recovered, however still requires full time care and his ongoing rehabilitation is unknown.

The smirking smiling teenager who is now 18 will not be considered for parole until his early thirties

You really have to question our legal system. A man tries to kill an innocent child in cold blood, shows not only no remorse but pride and joy, and could be walking our streets in 15 years time (and given the track record of our system, if he says his pleases and thank you’s in jail, he will be). Justice and Law died a long time ago in this country.

He didn't kill the kid, but if I was the kid I'd be wanting euthanasia tbh.
And you're bang on about the justice system.

Oops, thanks for pointing out my mistake.

But either way, the point still stands (just a little less severely) —
After what he did and said afterwards, his sentence is a joke.

Hopefully prison justice will kick in.

Probably not PC to say so but the incurably mentally ill who are a danger to the public should be humanely put down imo. They are never going to be of use to anybody, or themselves and will represent a permanent danger to the rest of society if and when they are let out, so what is the point of keeping them alive ?

OK hand wringers, over to you. ;)

It's a funny one. A 15 year custodial sentence is perfectly normal under law for attempted murder. The fact that this was a deliberate calculated attempt to kill a small defenseless child was almost certain taken into consideration but there are gradients of punishment set out for different levels of offense.

The recent stabbing and killing in Glasgow is a lot neater. Man randomly attacks people with weapon and is stopped by force and the stopping was permanent. That solution was the best expected outcome obviously.

The teenager who was yesterday sentenced to confinement was said to have been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. I'm not sure what that claims to describe. Is it like a method actor, where the actor attempts to embody a fictional character for a short duration of time.

If a person was playing a dog, they might imitate the sound of barking. Is that imitating a dog or have they become a dog for a short time. I expect most people can decide for themselves what is actually happening there.

However the field of psychiatry likes to allow a bit of latitude and can find acceptance with the most unusual thinking.
