Quite the opposite. Not sure they are flavour of the month with him after he left.

I would see him at a Man City type club if he continues to develop as he will exceed our level at some point but I agree that I would be worried if he showed no ambition and many of the trolls have been on his case now thinking he wants to leave
He doesn't want to leave(at the moment)...his said that, quite clearly, and unlike some pro footballers
think you can take Declan at his word..
So unless we collapse really abysmally
He's here for this and next year...We struggle and he loses his England spot might have an effect
tho..
Plus got his best Bud Mount at the Cheats.
But TBH we need to forget all this is he/they staying, and get down to concentrating on
this season....they're our players at the moment lets make the most of them..

Side note...always wondered could Declan play as a conventional MFer,more a Nobes type player,
does seem to be getting near being a complete player, not just a defensive orientated one...
He won't get a chance with us at the moment,we have to much there, but as his career progresses,
he might start playing more advanced, maybe more of a Box to Box type player..
I've been thinking about how Diop would do in midfield actually

Why should anyone be concerned about whether he can play elsewhere ? By general consensus he has been one of our outstanding performers since coming into the first team so I can't understand why we should worry about whether he would be better in the back four or if he could be more adventurous.

What next ? Shall we see if he's any good in our problem full back positions ?

He's a bloody good holding midfield player. Let's just be grateful for that.

Always like to see how good and what a player can do.. you have your Centre backs, who are pretty
specialised in their role, but even then you play a 3,be handy if your comfortable in a fullback role as
well, and then your fullbacks should be capable Wingers/WBs.
Most of the Best strikers around PL and elsewhere...play as Strikers, not an old fashioned CF,so they're
happy on the Wing if need be as a front 3 type of thing..interchanging.
Think anyone that plays MF especially should know the game from every aspect, and be comfortable
on the ball where ever you are on the pitch...
Think for us...say Nobes gets injured, and Sanchez was decent...we could go Sanchez as holder,
Push Declan into Nobes more advanced role, sitting when needed, but getting forward, linking
up more.

Declan is cracking at what he does and might spend his whole career there...
more than happy seeing him there at the moment....but like I said be interesting see how his
career progresses, and is there a bit more to come.

if we're still knocking round 10th...and the Cheats are into CL Qualies...

And TBH the way Top Table footie is this days...wouldn't slag him off for it.
If we're still knocking around 10th in a couple of years time, Chelsea or no Chelsea....he'll be off.
Fancy calling your only son "Barnestoneworth"

If Rice joins Chelsea, Tottenham or Arsenal he´s dead to me.

If he helps us to become European cup regulars and moves on to someone else in the champions league (if we can´t qualify in that time) for a proper fee I wont be that bothered.

I would of course hope he stays here for the rest of his career

But he should stop mentioning other clubs while he´s here.

He didn't mention anyone.....He was asked about links with Man u and he replied...

'Don't get me wrong, I think I've got the ability to play for a club like that....'

There's nothing wrong with self confidence.

Zero issue with what he said, asked an awkward question and replied by keeping the door open for any future move while saying kind words about us and the fan base.

I have no problem with players wanting to go on and better themselves by competing for (non China) trophies. Edmilson Fernandes said similar upon arrival and there will be far more instances of the Swiss than the Irish English.

In order to get his move (in the summer of 2021 by sounds of it) he will have to, not only play superb but consistently superb. It’s up the club to progress enough so that one day these players don’t wish to move on to compete.

Declan is still very young and learning his trade at the top level. He is a very skilled player and reads the game extremely well so it will be interesting to watch how he develops. It seems we all agree that there is much more to come from this young man. I'm just glad he plays in the claret and blue.

If we do not show ambition as a club in the next 1-3 years, I doubt he will be the only one looking sideways.

Rice

Will be gutted to see him go, but there is no way is he staying with us. The standard weren't great tonight from both teams , but he was head and shoulders, and that was just his hair.

Tbh I won't be sorry if he leaves. He deserves a better standard of football. He owes us nothing. Since coming into the team he's been, apart from one or two high profile cock ups, Arsenal last season and Palace this are two that come to mind, our stand out performer and is the only player who has performed consistently at the level expected of a PL footballer.

If he stays with us his career will eventually suffer. To reach his full potential he needs to surround himself with better players, play for a manager who places the emphasis on skill and creativity, and for a club that share the ambition which I'm sure he has for himself.

Good luck to him, wherever he ends up. Personally I'd like to see him at Man City. I think Guardiola would take him to the next level. Is he good enough for them ? Possibly not yet, although I could see him doing the job Fernandinho does for them and he's knocking on a bit now.
