Justin Thomas has been censured and lost his Ralph Lauren sponsorship deal, after pitch side microphones picked up his audible use of the word "faggots"
after missing a 5-foot par putt at a championship in Hawaii.
Apparently his use of the word was deemed highly-offensive and a derogatory homophobic slur. He has since apologised profusely and has agreed to undergo urgent counselling.
Had he been a person with a more agile mind, he could have explained his meatball reference was all to do with tasty pork balls and any interpretation suggesting a homophobic slur, was entirely the product of that persons own corrupted thinking.
Then we could have enjoyed a much wider grownup debate.
