I hadn't read that article - until now - but was aware of the statistics quoted. The whole facts vs feelings debate is nicely explored and within that exploration some uncomfortable truths are reasserted.
The BLM collection was a childish idea with destructive intentions. It always would attract the type of quality of person,that gets aroused by the opportunity of risk free public disorder.
A lot of what I read seems to be more about the perception of racial bias rather than anything concrete.
In fact some of what's been pointed at I've experienced myself.
- being followed around a shop. Check
- being avoided, or given a wide berth. Check
- being treated suspiciously. Check
- not getting a job you're qualified/over qualified for. Check
The list goes on. But in my case I don't attach any racial connotations to these incidents.
Of course this isn't to say bias doesn't exist, but that does seem to be the first port of call for any negative experience or interaction.
