It's not just politicians that have competency failings. Look at this from PHE

[A Public Health England (PHE) source said the risk cited by Ferguson was “very much our understanding”. They added: “It means that we are going to have to be careful about the reopening. Overall, though, we must really bear in mind the harms caused to children by not going back to school and, at a population scale, this may well be much larger than that of Covid.”]

So in what way, is it more harmful at a population scale, to keep children off school than contracting Covid.

Schools were closed for the very reason to keep children away from contagion and becoming part of the transmission cycle.Because the world had declared a pandemic and fighting it became the number #1 priority for all countries.

Now if PHE said they think the risk can be managed etc and gave some guideline on how this would operate then people would broadly support the initiative But they didn't because they can't. Exactly the same risk now as then, when closures began.

But they can't say that,so they say: it's more harmful to not risk getting the virus than getting the virus. Brilliant...you can see why their top of the class

Saw this and looked at the very first post and i dont think it looks silly. Someone on here said theres something like 20 million people dying from heart attacks and millions from starvation or cancer and yes its bad when someone dies from corona but theres nothing like the amounts who die from many other things. And its still mostly old or sick people who die from it isnt it. And i saw an advert on tv few days ago from some cancer charity what said corona has cost them about 40 million because people aint donating to cancer now. Some people die from it like some people die from lots of things but dont most people who are fit and healthy survive.
You have got to be kidding. Mire and more younger people are affected by this. It is extremely niaive to suggest it is only or mainly old people.

There doesn't seem to be much evidence here in the UK that the young are badly affected by it. The consensus seems to be that ethnic groups are the worst affected. The perception here still appears to be that, whilst it is accepted that anybody can catch the virus and, of course, carry it, younger people seem less seriously affected by it.

That said there is so much conflicting information, even from within the scientific community, I'm not sure anyone really knows.

And as an aside I assume on your side of the pond that senator or congressman, think he is from Kansas, who advocated re opening pretty much everything because the only people likely to die from catching it were the "economically inactive" ?

Thing is like it or not it's tied in with getting the Economy moving along again...we need people back to work...apart from
working itself to drive things on,but subsequently spending money....train fares, petrol, coffee shops..etc..
The Kids being back allows and makes things a lot easier for the majority for this to happen.
But Yet ANOTHER Prob to this is...some Schools could be fine....have the structure/buildings/space in place to make it safe,
others don't, it could be nigh on impossible....like keep saying ..there's thousands of different scenarios for each action we
take...some it will work for, others it wont...there just ISN'T a one fix for everyone...we can only do what hopefully suits
the Majority...and trust in people to use common sense...if you can open safely open..if you can't...don't.
And not using the blame game and calling People incompetent when they are trying their best in an unbelievable situation..

We are "Trying" to open up things when we have more or as many cases than when we shut down, and we have a bush fire
of it worldwide..which maybe is only just starting to peak..sounds utter madness...logically...but what else can we do....
Corvid Hopefully is a short term thing...another 18 months we'll have it under...we have to think of it's effects long term
now,and take that into account.

Has anyone on here had a test?
Apparently they do tests.
Amazing stuff. I read about it everywhere but i'm still yet to find a person who's actually had one.

There's the NHS who will guarantee a test before West Ham win the Premier League and there's shyster clinics who offer "walk in" services for a hefty sum but they look about as trustworthy as a Transylvanian blood transfusion.

Boris is too modest to publicly announce it,but the UK testing is in his words "world class". The total number of tests cumulatively is 17.5 million and we are still ramping them up (increasing capacity)

During project restart, people were being tested twice a week and not once did a return test prove positive. Which just shows the quality of the blood work.

We could not be more oven ready and prepared than London and the more desirable home counties are. It's brilliant and makes you want to be born all over again

I had one. Was a drive through thingy. People say it's horrible and uncomfortable but I didn't have an issue with it. Came back all clear though which was lucky coz I was due to start work for the 1st time since beginning of march so couldn't really afford it to be positive 😂

A mate of mine who had the test (positive) said it wasn't very nice.
