Atmosphere last night & trouble

Post by thomasdown480 »

Thought the atmosphere last night at times, actually for the majority of the game was just awesome. Spine tingling at times.

As for the trouble well I am in the camp that it's not on & people should be banned. Inside the stadium was like a western & outside when I was walking to Stratford High Street to get the DLR well the scenes on the open bit of grass was just full on violence between both sets of fans.

I think part of the problem is how big the space around the stadium is. 568 acres apparently. Thats a bloody big space for the 2000 police to cover.

At Upton Park they could use the small narrow streets to actually corden off / contain & police certain games. The fact its so open outside for me is actually a part of the problem.

As for the police bringing about 300-400 Chelsea supporters past a West Ham Pub the Builders Arms (whilst being escorted by police on horses etc) which was completely full about 30 mins after the game. Well how dumb can you seriously get.

I even called an officer over & told him about 400 yards up on the left is a West Ham pub and taking them past & bear in mind these chelsea had faces covered with scarfs etc and singing the Chelsea songs was just adding fuel to the fire. The police officer said we are taking them to the station & it will be fine.

3 minutes later well was like a scene out of a football hooligan film. Bottles / Beers / Bits of bench being thrown by both sets of supporters. I did have a smirk on my face as i walked past the other side of road going into Stratford High Street DLR station & smuggly said to myself "fucking told you so"

Amazing. I saw absolutely sweet FA and everything i've seen on the TV so far has looked like handbags.
I'm yet to see a photo of a blood-splattered West Ham or Chelsea fan and I wonder just how many were in A&E yesterday?

Of course i'm not in denial here and i'm sure there were ugly scenes and I will never condone it and the idiots should be banned for life..... but we all know the media have an agenda so whatever happens will be magnified 10 times.

One thing I've learnt over the years Thomas,is that the old bill aren't always bothered if there is a
little problem here and there. ;)

Understand if this post is deleted guys........

I was in the BMU and just saw the taunting in the Trevor lower, with the broken seat getting thrown from one side to the other and back. No issues outside the ground, left at the final whistle, shuffled to the tube and was back at the Excel hotel by about 20 past.

Any coincidence that this morning the C&H website is advertising Battlefield 1 on x-box?! :D

I never saw any trouble outside, but then I wasn't looking for it.
It’s not what you do it is the way that you do it.

Just back on the atmosphere for a moment. I think that may well be a watershed moment for the stadium, obviously I wasn't there but it was audible and the commentator kept on remarking on it. Clearly it's a huge area but when everyone sings that roof does hold the noise.

As for the crowd trouble . . . . . . . I'm fucking sick of it now. Eventually they'll get a system that works but because of the boats perhaps I feel quite detached from it all thankfully.

I'm getting quite used to the stadium now and love my seat, if I could have one other wish it would be a few more hammerscahtters near our seats.

Today is a good day to be a hammer and I want to think of Antonio, Fernades & Noble rather than a bunch of Chelsea scumbags

Gonzo, that atmosphere was rockin, my voice was gone by half time, we made so much noise. There was a guy in about row 50 of block 253 in the BMU who kept standing up and getting the crowd around to sing, did a great job.

Now we know what we can do there; the atmosphere was electric whufc_crest

Hammerschat is in the Daily Star today! Well at least that shitbrained plastic twat is. You should fire off an email to the old Bill Gonz including that fuckwit's IP address, because I cannot imagine, for a second he was bright enough to use a VPN. They take quite a dim view of using social media to incite violence. 5 years I think is the sentence it carries.

Oh how I'd fucking laugh....

Good afternoon fellows Hammers. Let me add to this conversation - I sit 215 Betway (right next to the away fans) FYI.

Fair play to the Chelsea fan they were giving it a good sing song most of the game but obviously as the game was running away from them they started to get less cheery and more dreary. In my block the noise wasn't to great - I was trying to be that guy who was mentioned above in the BMU but around me I think we have quite a few family men and a few older people - I swiftly moved to the block right next to the away fans at half time and the noise there was amazing, we was screaming for the whole half and I couldn't believe what I was hearing, dare I say it was close to the noise levels we reached last season.

A bad point - There were an awful lot of seats without bums on them last night but a good point on the back of that was that we was able to generate such an atmosphere with so many missing people. As the football gets better so will the attendance numbers.

I went back to the Carpenters Arms after the game which is sort of the next best thing to the Boleyn pub and the atmosphere there was really good too. Lots of singing and shouting - This place is starting to feel like home.
A quick touch on the trouble – There is always going to be trouble inside and outside the ground and that won’t ever change but what seems to have happened this year as it is a bit more in your faces. Like I said I sit right next to the away fans in the upper tier and all that trouble that happened in the lower tier didn’t look like it was started by Westham fans – especially from where I was sitting.

I hope that these guys (from all clubs) that do want to have a scrap start finding solutions to have these scraps held behind closed doors and I know this sounds like a story line from Green Street but I know a couple lairy guys and they have said that this used to be the case. The media are having a field day!

ANYWAYS – POSITIVES.
We should stop talking about all the shit and celebrate that we saw a performance we could be proud of. A performance that resembled what we saw last season – I AM ONE HAPPY HAMMER THIS MORNING.
