Not just chucked there to fill vacant places.
That is exactly my point, how many times has Johnson been dug out for not playing well in different positions, surely he should be able to say this is my position and I want to fight for it, not your over there next week then dumped on the bench.

Personally I think Johnson isn’t good enough to hold a permanent position anyway.
If he hadn’t come through the youth system he would no doubt have a lot more on his back imo of course

Can't think of too many who fit that category tbh. I suppose James Milner is one.

Far, far too good to be called a utility player but Ya Ya Tours at his peak must have been a manager's wet dream. Equally effective whether he played in midfield, upfront or at the back. It was legalised cheating playing that bugger, 3 players in one.

Again I agree, but he should have been allowed to specialise, I would rather a good right back than an alright defender, its looking like he will be destined for the bench soon unless more injuries occur.

Don't see it as Johnson being dumped on the bench. I read the situation as when everyone is fit he isn't the best player available for either the full back/wing back role or a central defensive one. But when players are not available he is capable of doing a reasonable job in those positions. Obviously only he knows what he feels his best position is.

That is a bloody good point. It does seem we give players who come up from the academy a lot more leeway, even once they've established themselves as first team players. FFS look at the stick Diop got compared to Tomkins when he was around.

Ben Johnson’s ability to play rb & cb in a 3 or a 4 at such a young age is invaluable. Fornals will benefit from more playing time with Paqueta, Scamacca & Benny, these players play much more like the youth team players he came up with through the Spanish system. Antonio is in his perfect role now, a motivated backup striker!

Now it’s just up to our manager to fit them all in the same lineup, which Brazil solved by moving Paqueta back in the midfield.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him try that with Rice & Paqueta holding behind, Benny, Fornals & Bowen once our first team defenders are all fit.

Is this not part of the Moyes problem though ? His inability or fear of trying something like that ?
Bring back Jonathon !

Saw an interview with Cornet once upon a time. He is supposedly able to and has been utilized in several positions ( this has given Moyes a headache ).

What made me laugh though was he reckoned his best position was a forward. Not sure if he was joking, but it made me laugh after seeing some of his howlers.

Moyes doesn't know his arse from his elbow. His main question once he's fit is if can he head crosses away in his own 6 yard box.
