I read the club were considering offering him a new deal. In any case not wanting to piss on anyone's parade all a contract does is to increase the potential transfer fee if and when the player moves. The longer the contract, the higher the price.

But that said I fully expected him to leave last window and obviously like everyone else I'm delighted our one genuinely top class player is still with us.
I did say apparently just hopeful that's all

And if he accepts it, which if offered he'd be silly not to. it's good for him and good for the club. Because when he does leave which, let's be honest one day he will. they can demand a bigger fee.

I said all along the rumours about him leaving were bollox, and the rumours about him being offered a new deal now are also.

He won't be leaving in January either, but will get a new deal then and be given the captaincy in the summer.
