I read the club were considering offering him a new deal. In any case not wanting to piss on anyone's parade all a contract does is to increase the potential transfer fee if and when the player moves. The longer the contract, the higher the price.

But that said I fully expected him to leave last window and obviously like everyone else I'm delighted our one genuinely top class player is still with us.
