Haven’t watched a single game yet. Some highlights of our game yesterday but that’s it.
When the game first re started last season I thought it would be a bit weird without crowds tbh. But imo the standard of football has been no different without crowds in the stadiums. And tbh I'm enjoying the fact all the games are being televised. There's fuck all else worth watching on the box.

Never had you marked down as a Cliff Richard fan Tone.
Just out of curiosity, Why? Surely iy's the actual game that we enjoy watching isn't it ? I get that some people miss the buzz of actually being at a match but I don't get why someone who enjoys watching the game wouldn't watch it because there's no one in the stadium.
And because of the government's continuing project fear tactic trying to convince people they'll die if they come within half a mile of another living soul I guess the alternative is no sport at all. Presumably you have the same view in respect of other spectator less sports?

“Surely”? Not for me.
I’ll pay to watch a sporting spectacle but for me this has to be the whole package. The crowd are an integral part of that.
On a good day they can lift their team, fluster the opposition, influence the officials but most importantly provide the game with its soul and spirit.
On a bad day where the football is gash, the crowd can add some badly needed energy.
I’m not an avid scrutiniser of the game. I like to watch but don’t analyse so for me just the game on its own is of little interest.
You’d be surprised how many people like me love football but not just the “game” itself.
For me, “football” encompasses everything. Purely on its own it’s a dire, soulless affair devoid of spirit and energy.
Especially in those large stadia where the echos only serve to exaggerate the emptiness.
Edit: Cliff is quite possibly the most nauseating human being I’ve never seen.
I exaggerate of course when I say I’d prefer to listen to Christian rock music. But it’s a close-run thing......

Yep.
Never liked TV football before. Now with either echoing empty stadia and piped in crowd noise it is hideous. The only game I watched since Lockdown was the West Ham v Watford game but I wont watch any more.
I remember saying on a post about a year ago that the PL would eventually do this anyway to get more televised games in as they care little about fans. Covid has just provided them with an excuse to try it out and if many people watch they will know they can do without fans.

I guess that's where we differ. I enjoy the actual game more than the overall spectacle, if that makes sense. It's one of the reasons I enjoy the kids' games on Sunday, although very occasionally there is a bit of crowd noise on the sidelines.
Behind the obligatory respect line of course.

My dear old departed uncle Pete was very much like that.
Absolutely loved the game at a molecular level.
He was a coach of high repute for a number of years but for the big-time football he just used to enjoy watching from the comfort of his living room over a cup of tea or a glass of wine.
He never actually supported a team (other than those he coached) because he always said he got more enjoyment from watching the game when his emotions weren’t being torn and frayed.
There’s certainly logic to be found there and I can relate to that because it is sometimes torture watching WHU play. Either because we’re shit or we’re desperately hanging on to a winning position or for a draw.
I have thought to myself on more than one occasion that it would less stressful if I followed “uncle Pete’s model”.
But I was raised in a West Ham family and a West Ham environment such is my lot !!

It would be difficult to adopt any other position. One can't attend every Prem game live, so watching on TV is the only option. So every week and every year one is going to consume a lot of TV football.
I enjoy the experience of live football but being part of any group or collective does not diminish the love of watching other teams. And this season it's been really rewarding. The calibre of incoming players has continued and a lot of the teams have interesting lineups.
Football is about the players,the game,chess on grass,geometry,tactics,mind games. The crowd have a nosy embroidery and that's their function.
Different when your there of course. What I miss the most, is the all day drinking. Let's understand that.
