Idolised this man growing up. He remains my favourite hammer of all time and one of only two whose name I would wear on the back of a shirt.

Me too! I watched the whole of this interview. What a humble, straight, down to Earth guy - as you'd expect, I suppose...But didn't disappoint....

My favourite Hammer when I 1st started going in '72 was Pop Robson, but over time, like almost everyone else, it was Bonds...

When he came to open the stand in his name v Newcastle, you could sense that everyone had their own deep personal memory of him... All there in 1 man.
I can imagine it must have been overwhelming for him....EVEN for him!... To have that much love coming towards you.... He meant SO much to us all...and still does, of course.

There is another name I'd have on the back of my shirt: W. Anchor (often mis-spelt Anker, of course....)....

A true gent.
When I was a kid I won player of the year one season with my Sunday team. Billy was invited to present the medals. I was thrilled to have won, but even more thrilled to have him shake my hand.
He couldn't have been nicer.
Loved his attitude as a player.

The opening of the Billy Bonds stand.
I loved the noise of the fans and Billy's reaction. I don't think it was a coincidence that we went on to win comfortably that day.....

Fancy calling your only son "Barnestoneworth"
He's got another name....
Yeah....."United"
