You can simplify the kick by enabling it to be played from anywhere along that 8 yard line.

And remove that unwritten law that socks have to fully pulled up and straightened...

We certainly don't. Not quick or clever enough to pass our way up the field at the moment.

With the lesser teams who try it the ball invariably finds its way back to the keeper who gives it the hoof he should have done 30 sec earlier.

That's prob because your opponents are high pressing mike..something else we need to get our heads
around if we want to be able to mix it in the PL...

If you don't press properly as a unit....there'll be gaps in the MF..you can exploit, which is what
happens to us,when we do press it's usually just Nobes and Snoddy...hence sides playing straight
thru us and our MF at times, every one has to push right up with it,so there's no gaps.
We're often spread out length of the pitch....means there's gaps...all the best sides will be in
close up to each other...means there's always 2 sometimes 3 options for the player in possession,
a sideways...Backwards..or picking out a runner...
We're often very Stagnant and spread out...hard to play like that.

What I don't get is we've always been that way, whoever the Manager/coach has been...
Slav had it going for a while...that was with Average Players...now we have arguably better
players..yet a worse team..

We didn't play that great yesterday IMO....pretty much same as all year....shows there's more than
one way to win a game...but the way we play,a low possession game...you'll lose more than
you win.

Hopefully in the future we'll see a change.

Possession stats are the most meaningless stats of all stats.
The team with more possession might win but is just as likely to lose.
I also think that very high possession is indicative of a team that has spent a lot of time passing
Back and forth across its own back four which is incredibly boring to watch.
Our performance against Southampton was both effective and exciting because we were breaking from deep positions with great speed and also some penetrating long balls to Haller or into space.
It was probably the first time in a long while that we actually played to our strengths.
Pellegrini would never have played that way, I really hope it's a sign of things to come.

"Wins" ,just correct I suppose ;)

We may when the team is restructured. At the moment our engine room needs a major overhaul and some new parts before we can contemplate playing a posession based game. Look at the sides that have high posession ststs, and then see how many of our midfield "creators" would get into their sides.

You can win the odd game with low possession, even avoid relegation, with really low stats on it,
but you keep knocking around the 40% mark, you'll struggle and prob eventually drop....

Pretty certain....you look at possession stats who's highest to lowest,be the same as the league table,
or very close.

Trouble is if you don't trust your defenders to play out, your in trouble with it, cos it starts with them,
we hit direct balls into them(MF) from the back, they'll have someone on their arse and no time on the
ball...you play across your defence/Sitter....gives time for them to find some space...and move it
on.

We're always so hurried to clear our lines, granted sometimes you have to,but we should try and
at least mix it up a bit...
And stop relying on breakaways to score so much....score from pressurising.

It’s a bit early to say why fix what ain’t broken , after all it’s only been one game and against a pretty poor Southampton team at that , but...

Why fix what ain’t broken ?

Whether it turns out to be a successful tactic or not , with a Moyes team you’ll get nothing else.

Problem is in the real world if something's broken you either go out the same day and buy a new one, or a part to repair it. The nonsense of the "windows" stops football clubs doing that.

In any case would you trust the bloke you send to the shop to buy a new part to come back with the right bit, particularly if he saw other parts advertised more cheaply ?
